On Sunday (May 28), Conwy-based Idlewild Animal Sanctuary received a message from a Prestatyn resident saying that they had come across the snake, which “terrified” her.
The sanctuary has since taken in the snake, which was found to be particularly underweight, and has appealed for its owner to come forward.
Kim Barton-Jones, who runs the sanctuary, said: “The people who found it were terrified of snakes!
“They found it at the back of their property – originally, they thought it was a toy snake from the charity shop next door, until one of them went to pick it up!
“She’s obviously been out for quite a while and is really thin, bless her.
“She hadn’t eaten for quite a long time; when she first came in, she ate two mice straight away, whereas normally, they take a little while to eat them.”
Despite sharing pictures of the snake on its social media platforms, its owner has yet to be found.
It will stay in the care of the sanctuary until either its owner comes forward or a new home is discovered for it.
In the meantime, it will be fed regularly to bring its weight back up.
Idlewild Animal Sanctuary responds to calls daily from the public for animals that have been found or injured, and take in all wildlife animals to “rehab and release” them.
The sanctuary also provides a home and care for a range of horses, sheep, goats, pigs and birds.
