After Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains posted on Twitter (now X) that he was bitten by a snake throughout flood reduction operations, what got here as a shock for a lot of, was a slightly cryptic ‘get-well soon’ message for the minister by state’s BJP president and an ex-Congressman, Sunil Jakhar.

Cautioning the AAP minister to ‘beware’ of real-life snakes in politics, Jakhar – whereas tweeting an image of ‘Snakes & Ladders’ board sport – wrote: “I’m relieved to learn that Sh Harjot Bains ji is recovering well from a snake bite. I wish him good health and a quick recovery. Wahe Guru mehar rakhe! Ps- While you are recuperating Harjot ji, here is something to cheer you up. Count your blessings that it was only a reptile kind, for which our able doctors have a cure. Beware of the ones which don’t hide in flood waters or grass and dealing with them is an occupational hazard in politics which turns uglier by the day, and is becoming more like a game of – Snake & Leaders (oops Ladders)!”

While many interpreted that Jakhar’s ‘Snake & Leaders’ remark was focused at AAP bigwigs, the jibe slightly was at his personal ex-party and ex-colleagues from Punjab Congress, and got here at a time when he was already engaged in a Twitter battle with senior Congress chief Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa over ‘shifting loyalties and opportunism’.

From the race for CM submit following Captain Amarinder Singh’s exit forward of Punjab meeting polls final 12 months to subsequent exit of each Amarinder and Jakhar from Congress, a number of unhealthy blood was created. Both Randhawa and Jakhar are actually reminding one another of ‘favours’ they did to one another up to now. Both have been amongst contenders for CM’s submit earlier than Charanjit Channi was chosen for it by the celebration. Jakhar nevertheless feels that Randhawa was among the many high ‘backstabbers’ who scuttled his possibilities of changing into the CM.

Jakhar’s cryptic ‘get well soon’ want for the AAP minister and a phrase of warning to the younger minister to ‘beware’ of ‘snakes’ in politics, has slightly opened a Pandora’s field in Congress, as a substitute of AAP.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Jakhar stated that his ‘Snakes and Leaders’ remark wasn’t focused at a selected celebration or chief however at ‘politicians of current times’.

“Everyone is gunning for everyone; there are toxic people in politics now. They just pull you down whenever they can and want to reach the top. I feel such people are more venomous that real snakes. That’s why I advised Harjot (Bains) to be cautious of such people. I advised him as he is relatively new in politics. I have seen politics for more than five decades since my father’s times but it was never as toxic as now,” stated Jakhar.

He additionally didn’t mince phrases about his former celebration. “Punjab Congress is full of such snakes. I went out of the way during my tenure as PPCC president to help some of them but see how they are behaving now. Such people are even more dangerous than snakes. They pretend to be very close to you and act as your well-wishers but turn out to be opposite. That’s why I wrote that it’s an occupational hazard for politicians to deal with such real-life snakes,” stated Jakhar.

“It is actually a game of ‘Snakes and Leaders’ in Punjab politics where the biggest snakes want to eat everyone else and reach the top by hook or by crook without caring for any ethics,” he added.

Commenting on Jakhar’s assertion that ‘Punjab Congress leaders have accepted an alliance with AAP due to fear of going to jail’, Randhawa had tweeted: “A proud lifetime Congressman turned Sanghi is spreading wisdom over loyalty, ethics & trust. Whose generations got everything from @INCIndia could not stand by it in difficult times & joined those whom he used to detest like hell all his life.”

In one other tweet, Randhawa then additionally focused Jakhar’s nephew Sandeep Jakhar (Congress MLA from Abohar), and wrote: “Btw Mr @suniljakhar has your nephew also entered into an alliance with the @AamAadmiParty. Oh wait! Or is he still to join @BJP4India, officially I mean. You are a shameless opportunist with no ethics, you betrayed us as the chairman campaign committee just to save your seat.”

Jakhar then reminded Randhawa of who “helped him” when his title was being related to gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria.

“It’s ironic that Sh Randhawa should rave and rant about me instead of being grateful to me—for nothing else but for the fact that I was the one who provided him with a semblance of dignity when he was making a spectacle of himself on Bhagwanpuria issue,” tweeted Jakhar.

And then got here Randhawa’s ‘reminder’ to Jakhar on ‘who made you Gurdaspur MP’.

“Hallucination is a disease caused by ungrateful-titus & you @suniljakhar have been critically infected. Don’t lose your mental balance, you still might have a long political career in many political parties. Maybe you forgot who made you a Gurdaspur MP #thankless #opportunist,” tweeted Randhawa.

The Dera Baba Nanak MLA from Gurdaspur district, Randhawa, most likely meant to say that it was due to his affect within the district and efforts in campaigning that Jakhar gained Gurdaspur Lok Sabha bypoll in 2017.

While Jakhar says that he would title ‘several such people in Punjab Congress in future who forgot all that he did for them’, Randhawa questions: “Which favour is he talking about? It is the court which had cleared my name in Bhagwanpuria case. Had he (Jakhar) gone to the judge to seek help for me?”
