70 harmful wild animals and snakes being kept in Wiltshire

The owners hold licences under the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976, which do not consist of animals kept in a zoo, circus, family pet shop. 

There are presently 5 harmful wild animals licences held within the Wiltshire Council location. 

The list of these animals revealed following a Freedom of Information demand is:  

Two typical brown lemurs and one collared brown lemur being kept in North Wiltshire.

47 American plains bison being kept in South Wiltshire.

Three Bactrian camels in South Wiltshire.

Three ocelots, 5 Asian leopards, one serval, 4 wolves and 3 ring-tailed lemurs being kept in West Wiltshire.

One king cobra, one Siamese Peninsular pit viper, one Pope’s pit viper, one Hagen’s pit viper in North Wiltshire.

The council did not wish to provide anymore in-depth details.  

The herd of bison roaming south Wiltshire can be explained by the Bush Farm Bison Centre near Mere. 

The farm is likewise home to Elk and uses an outdoor camping space and a walking location in addition to Bison and Elk steak.  

Events are likewise hung on the premises consisting of a conventional event of Native American culture called the Powwow, which is a dance celebration held each year.
