A CO ANTRIM woman has told how her two young children were left “traumatised” after a hit-and-run driver mounted the pavement and killed their pet dog.

The woman took to social media yesterday to appeal for help in tracking down the driver saying: “(It) could easily have been one of the kids.”

On Facebook she told how “we took our two babies and two beagles” for a walk when the incident took place on Monday afternoon

The woman said: “As we were walking home, waiting to cross the road, a car swerved towards us, mounted the pavement and hit our wee youngest beagle, Annie. She died outright. The guy didn’t even stop.

“We are totally devastated and kids are traumatised. If anyone saw anything at all, could you please get in contact….Poor wee Annie, could easily have been one of the kids!”

Due to the shock, the woman said she did not get the silver car’s number plate but said it appeared to be a Nissan Qashqui driving towards Jordanstown on the Upper Road.

She said the driver appeared to be “60s+ with a female passenger of similar age”.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police received a report that at just after 4.15pm on Monday, 2nd January, a dog was hit by a silver car on Upper Road, Greenisland at the junction with Goldenview Park.

“The driver failed to stop and the dog sadly died as a result.”

The spokesman added that anyone, who witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam footage, to contact them.
