Major events remain in order as the world’s oldest dog is marking yet another birthday

Bobi — a pure-blooded Rafeiro do Alentejo from Portugal — commemorated his birthday the other day and holds the Guinness World Records for both the oldest living dog and the oldest canine ever taped.

Bobi – who is turning 31 – formally dismissed a Chihuahua called Spike to declare the oldest living dog title back in February.

Costa told Guinness: “Looking at him is like remembering the people who were part of our family and unfortunately are no longer here, like my father, my brother or my grandparents who have already left this world.

“Bobi represents those generations,” he said.

This good old boy originates from a line of long-living canines. His mama, Gira, lived to the ripe aging of 18, and another among their dogs, Chicote, lived to be 22 – a lot longer than the Rafeiro do Alentejo’s typical life-span of 12 years.

And beyond his age, Bobi’s story is an amazing one.

He was born as one of 4 male pups in 1992 in a shed owned by the Costa family.

“My daddy was a hunter, and we constantly had numerous dogs,” Costa informed Guinness.

But, due to the variety of animals they already owned, his daddy chose that they could not keep the puppies.

“Unfortunately, at that time it was considered normal to bury the animals in a hole so that they would not survive,” he explained.

The day after the puppies were born, Costa’s moms and dads took them while the pups’ mom, Gira, wasn’t around.

In the days that followed, he and his siblings observed Gira often going to the shed where her puppies were born.

They chose to follow Gira one day and found Bobi who had actually inadvertently been left.

“We knew that when the dog opened its eyes, my parents would no longer bury it,” he explained. “It was popular knowledge that this act could not or should be done.”

By the time his moms and dads found Bobi, the puppy had actually already opened his eyes and he quickly entered into the family.

“When they learnt that we already understood, they yelled a lot and penalized us, however it deserved it and for a good factor!”

When asked how Bobi has actually lived so long, Costa says that a person of the most significant contributing elements is the ‘calm, tranquil environment’ he resides in.

He’s constantly taken pleasure in totally free stroll of the land surrounding the Costa family house and hung out with numerous other animals throughout his life.

Nowadays, this senior is a little less daring however still takes pleasure in hanging out in the lawn with his feline good friends and relaxing by the fire.
