A dog named Brody has left online commenters in stitches after a video of him bringing his owner one bottle of water after another went viral on social media.

In the video, shared Thursday on TikTok by the dog’s owner under the username Facecination, the Australian shepherd can be seen excitedly walking into the living room with a small bottle of water for his owner, who thanks and pets him. Apparently, not satisfied with the response, he does it again and again, then gives up after dropping a bottle in front of her.

The hilarious post comes with a caption that says: “Teach your dog to get you water, you won’t regret it at all they said.” The owner added: “If I kept recording I’d have the whole case.”

It takes about six weeks to train a dog properly, according to the Spruce Pets website, and while there are many different ways to train a dog, most dog professionals agree that positive reinforcement is the best way to go for both dog and trainer.

Positive reinforcement when training your pet can include food treats, praise, petting, a favorite toy or playing a game, the U.S. Humane Society says. But since most dogs are highly food-motivated, edible treats work especially well for training and “should be enticing and irresistible to your pet.”

But you want to be careful that you don’t inadvertently use positive reinforcement to reward unwanted behaviors. For example, if you let your dog outside every time it barks at a noise in the neighborhood, you’re giving it a reward (access to the yard) for a behavior you want to discourage (barking).

The TikTok post quickly went viral, attracting animal lovers from across the platform, and so far has received over 2.6 million views and 452,600 likes.

One user, Mitchestic, commented: “It’s called overtime pay the man.” And Scott D Marshall said: “He’s just making sure you’re hydrated. He’s the best boy.” KingSomethin wrote: “Dog: hmmm I’m craving some attention, I bet mom can use a water!”

Michelle Reyes said: “That last one was like ‘oh you need another one? Coming right up!!” And Zac_McD wrote: “He said if you would drink one I wouldn’t have to keep bringing them.” Ashley added: “The last lookback – ‘Mom looks dehydrated.”

Another user, Steve West, said: “Maybe He’s bringing you treats.” And alonzo_lerone wrote: “It’s cuz you saying thank you and petting.”

Mary & Atlas added: “Looks like you did a good job reinforcing the behavior!” And stevebennett525 joked: “You didn’t ask but he knows the recommended daily water intake.”

Newsweek could not verify the details of the case and reached out to Facecination for comment.
