CHESTER – A Widener University pupil who lives off campus suffered a superficial knife wound in an assault at 18th and Chestnut streets early Friday morning, prompting a lockdown.
The pupil was walking their canine with a pal about 12:30 a.m. once they got here into contact with one other person walking their canine, in line with a launch from the college.
“After an apparent exchange of words between the two, the suspect threw something at the student’s dog and then assaulted the student with a small knife,” the discharge states. “The suspect immediately retreated through an adjacent campus parking lot and exited the campus.”
Widener University Campus Safety responded and supplied support to the scholar, who was transported by ambulance to Crozer-Chester Medical Center for therapy, in line with the discharge. The pupil’s canine was unhurt.
“Campus Safety immediately alerted the university community of the incident and put the Chester campus on lockdown,” the discharge states. “The department is reviewing camera footage of the incident and sharing it with police, who are investigating. The university is providing support to the student.”
The lockdown was lifted roughly 90 minutes later. The campus was set to begin the winter break Friday night.
Chester Police Superintendent Steve Gretsky stated Detective David DeFrank is investigating the incident.
