Those scurvy sea dogs that invade Tampa annually for Gasparilla obtained some cute comrades on Sunday as native canine homeowners introduced their pooches, in full garb, to the brand new Pirate Pup Parade.
The procession on Water Street was a twist to the town’s more-than-a-century-old Gasparilla season. It featured a canine costume contest at Sparkman Wharf and dogs up for adoption from native shelters.
Among the elite have been “influencer” dogs with their very own Instagram accounts. A Great Dane named Obie was the designated parade captain.
Organizers mentioned they hope the parade will grow to be a yearly custom. This month may even deliver the Children’s Gasparilla Parade on Jan. 20 and the massive Gasparilla Parade of Pirates on Jan. 27, throughout which greater than 50 krewes will toss beads and trinkets to a crowd of greater than 300,000.
On that day, a completely rigged pirate ship, the Jose Gasparilla II, will “invade” Tampa in a flotilla of a whole lot of boats and yachts. Pirates will demand the important thing to the town and kick off a 120-unit parade down Bayshore Boulevard. The occasion has been held in Tampa since 1904.
