The play park off St James Street in Daisy Hill was not too long ago left in a multitude after a bin was set alight, rubbish was ‘strewn all over the place’ and canine poo was smeared round it.
A clean-up effort by the council’s waste group and volunteers has now cleared the mess, however locals nonetheless can’t believethat somebody would do one thing so disgusting.
The ‘well-used’ playground was vandalised on the weekend of September 23-24 after which cleaned up on the Monday, September 25.
Cllr David Chadwick of Westhoughton South has requested for a alternative bin to be put within the place of the vandalised one and reported the incident to the police.
He says Greater Manchester Police are set to submit an arson report and want to establish the offenders.
Cllr Chadwick mentioned: “It was horrendous. I do not envy our groups who’ve to scrub up these items.
“It is not one thing any person needs to be anticipated to do.
“I do know that the groups that do that are fabulous. It is a horrible activity we ask them to do, I do know they receives a commission, however I do commend the work they do.
“I’ll exit of my option to thank them, because the neighbourhood can be quite a bit worse with out them.”
He continued: “Police are attempting to establish the individuals accountable. I’ve not but had any data from the police as to whether or not they have managed to take them down.
“I see the Westhoughton and Horwich policing group round Westhoughton commonly.
“The sergeant answerable for the Westhoughton for the group, they’re very thorough, organised and accountable. Fingers crossed they handle to catch those that did this.
“I’ve an eight-year-old grandson, I would not need for him to play on that playground and discover that stuff.”
This comes after vandals broke into cars in Westhoughton on more than one occasion over the summer.
Multiple vehicles had their home windows smashed in and one automotive had AirPods stolen from it.
Police launched an investigation into the vandalism and put out an enchantment.
