PORTAGE — A four-year-old was hospitalized with critical accidents after being attacked by his mom’s boyfriend’s dogs in Portage.
The attack occurred round 4:45 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, on Pleasant Drive close to Newells Lane, in response to the Portage Department of Public Safety.
“When we got here, we found a child on a recliner (who) was severely bleeding, had multiple puncture wounds throughout his body,” stated Portage DPS Lieutenant Ronald Clark.
The boy was “semi-conscious” when emergency responders arrived. He was rushed to the hospital, the place he was listed in vital situation on Monday.
Clark stated there have been three grownup dogs, which he described as pit bull mixes, and two puppies within the home. The dogs’ proprietor lives there together with his girlfriend and her son, the kid who was mauled. Investigators say the proprietor was home with the kid when the attack occurred.
Kalamazoo County Animal Control eliminated the three grownup dogs from the home. The puppies remained with their proprietor.
Police have been again on the home Monday, persevering with to work out what led as much as the attack.
“There’s cages inside the house and outside the home, so we’re not certain if they’re caged regularly or if they’re all loose in the house at one time,” Clark stated.

After officers end their investigation, the county prosecutor will determine what, if any, costs are warranted towards the dogs’ proprietor.
Clark stated police have been to the home dozens of instances, although he did not know the character of these calls. He added Children’s Protective Services was concerned with the household beforehand.
