GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — K9 Academy International (K9AI) is contributing among its puppies to a veteran who requires a psychiatric service dog.
The deal is being made in honor of regional veterans in the wake of this year’s Memorial Day.
“We know the healing power of a dog’s love; it can do wonders for the emotional, physical, and mental health,” K9AI composes on its Facebook page. “Knowing this, we are happy to have this opportunity to bless a retired service person.”
We’re informed the puppy will be attended to totally free with all training — which would take 6–8 months — spent for by K9AI.
Applicants are needed to have the following:
- A long-term residence in West Michigan
- A yard fence
- No other family pets (with some exceptions)
- Time to consult with K9AI each week or every other week
- VA files detailing PTSD and TBI
- The capability to look after the dog’s requirements
- No prior felonies or drug abuse
Those wanting to make an application for the puppy might do so by messaging K9AI’s Facebook page with their name, age and address, in addition to the following info:
- Other household members
- A description of your everyday way of life
- How you believe a service dog would benefit you
- Whether or not other family pets are dealing with you
- VA documents
