A ‘dangerously out of control’ XL bully-type canine was shot lifeless by police yesterday after attacking one other canine and injuring three individuals.

The canine – described by officers as being a ‘large bulldog-type’ – was reported to have been shot six instances by armed police after makes an attempt to restrain it had failed.

‘Local officers attended and attempted to restrain the dog, which was dangerously out of control. Armed officers subsequently attended and the dog was shot dead by police. Three people reported receiving minor injuries during this incident.

‘Inquiries are ongoing to establish the breed of dog and there will be a continued police presence in the area while inquiries continue.’

The spokesman added: ‘As with any firearm discharge, the circumstances of the incident will be referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner.’

The situation of the three injured individuals and the collie canine was not recognized final evening.

From this Friday, all homeowners of XL bullies in Scotland should ensure their canine wears a muzzle and is stored on a lead always in public.
