From Northumberland down to County Durham, the North East has some gorgeous beaches.

And in the summer season the shoreline can be loaded with households wanting to take pleasure in a day in the sun. But each year in between May 1 and September 30, a few of the area’s popular beaches end up being based on a dog restriction, avoiding owners from walking their dogs on the beach.




The restriction belongs to a Public Space Protection Order and anybody seen breaching the restriction might be prosecuted. So it is necessary to understand where the limitations remain in location.

A variety of dog restrictions are now in force on beaches in Northumberland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Sunderland. While there were talks of a restriction being carried out on Seaham beach in County Durham in between 10am and 3pm from May till September, the council just recently revealed that following a public assessment, these propositions were not carried out.

These are the North East beaches where dogs are prohibited in between May 1 and September 30 each year.

The North Tyneside Council website specifies that Whitley Bay (south) undergoes yearly summer season beach limitations, as designated under Public Space Protection Orders.

Dogs can be strolled on the area of Whitley Bay beach north of Panama Gardens.

The limitations range from May 1 to September 30 and signs are shown at every area. Breaking the law might cause prosecution.

The North Tyneside Council website specifies that Tynemouth Longsands (south) undergoes yearly summer season beach limitations, as designated under Public Space Protection Orders.

Dogs can be strolled at the northern end of Tynemouth Longsands, towards Cullercoats.

The limitations range from May 1 to September 30 and indications are shown at every area. Breaking the law might cause prosecution.

Dogs are not permitted on Sandhaven Beach in between May 1 and September 30 in between the hours of 8am and 6pm.

South Tyneside Council describes that dogs are permitted on Littlehaven Beach (beside Sandhaven) and Marsden Beach throughout the year.
