A Tennessee dog was rescued Monday night after tipping over 50 feet into a cavern, authorities said.

Shaker, a hound, fell in between 50 and 75 feet after smelling a raccoon and going after the animal in a woody location near the town of Bean Station, dog owner Jacob Reed informed WVLT-TV.

Reed said that Shaker might stagnate after the fall.

The Bean Station Volunteer Fire Department said its volunteer members reacted at around 10:30 p.m. and started working to reach the hound.

Using trees as anchors, a rescuer rappelled into the cavern to reach Shaker and ultimately brought the dog to safety.

Officials in Bean Station, situated in eastern Tennessee about 47 miles northeast of Knoxville. said the dog gave safety and did not suffer any injuries in the fall.

Reed informed the station that the rescuers most likely saved Shaker’s life, which the hound was doing well at home.

“We got him home, offered him some water, and fed him, and he was striking around like absolutely nothing even took place,” Reed said. “Put him on a treadmill and making certain whatever was working good and he was as good as he was prior to we left.”
