Police state no laws were broken after a severed head of a coyote, at first believed to be a dog, was discovered in a bag discarded near a park in Zion on Thursday.
A lady informed Lake and McHenry County Scanner that her daddy encountered a white cooking area garbage bag near 33rd Street and Ezekiel Avenue in Zion around 10 a.m. Thursday while carrying out litter pick-up.
The garbage bag was unsealed and discovered on the edge of a gorge at Sharon Park.
A severed head, which authorities and animal control at first believed to be that of a German Shepherd, was inside the bag, the female said.
The Zion Police Department said in a declaration Friday that the head was identified to be a coyote, not a dog.
A coyote is not a “companion animal” as specified by the Illinois Humane Care for Animals Act, the authorities department said.
A coyote is an “Authorized Species” as specified by the Illinois Wildlife Code.
“There was no evidence of any violation of the Illinois Humane Care for Animals Act or Illinois Wildlife Code,” the declaration said.
Police likewise said it is unidentified whether an individual cut off the head or if it was gotten rid of by another animal following death.
Illegal disposing is thought to be the only offense that happened, the authorities department said.
No suspect info has actually been established.
“There is no way to determine if the animal died naturally or not, whether it was caused by a person, or another animal,” authorities said.
