DUANESBURG — A constable’s deputy shot a dog Monday after supposedly being assaulted by the animal.
The Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office said in a release Monday that a deputy reacted to Duane Avenue after a report of 2 loose dogs at around 10 a.m.
One of the dogs, a German shepherd, started to roar and bark at the deputy, the constable’s workplace said. The deputy attempted to nestle in his patrol vehicle, however the dog supposedly chased him and bit his lower leg. The deputy continued to attempt to escape the dog, when the animal charged once again, the constable’s workplace said.
The deputy fired as soon as from his service weapon, striking the dog in the shoulder, the constable said. “The deputy was in fear of being seriously injured by the dog,” the declaration checked out.
The deputy was required to Ellis Hospital for treatment of the dog bite. The shepherd had surgical treatment Monday at Upstate Veterinary Animal Hospital in Latham.
The constable’s workplace said the examination into the occurrence is continuous.
