SAN ANTONIO – Joan Potters’ room has reworked right into a makeshift workshop — colourful material swatches and stitching instruments on almost each floor.
Every day, you could find Potters, 93, rigorously crafting canine beds from material scraps left over from the Greater San Antonio Quilting Guild.
“I just am happy to do it for them and to know that some dog is going to be comfortable,” Potters mentioned.
The canine beds go from her room to animal shelters round San Antonio, just like the San Antonio Humane Society and the Paul Jolly Center for pet adoptions.
“It makes me feel so good to know that they’re not going to be laying on cement or a hard floor or in the winter,” Potters mentioned.
Despite her age, her power shines with each sew.
“I get tired, but I’ll just keep doing it until I can’t do it anymore,” Potters mentioned.
Potters pays consideration to element, ensuring no free threads can get caught on the canine’s paws.
“I cut up rags for days until I have enough to stuff with,” Potters mentioned.
On prime of the recycled material, it’s a gaggle effort to maintain our four-legged pals heat.
Missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ will sometimes assist her with the stitching, delivering round 30 to 40 beds to canine shelters every month.
Potters mentioned our furry pals want somebody searching for them.
“You know their bones ache, too. You know they have feelings. They can’t talk to us in our language, but look at their eyes and the expression on their face. They all have expressions and I just love them,” Potters mentioned.
To assist a canine in want, a want record for the San Antonio Humane Society might be discovered here.
Donations might be introduced on to 4804 Fredericksburg Rd.
