Roanoke animal shelter workers warn canine homeowners of respiratory sickness

ROANOKE, Va. – Staff on the Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection in Roanoke stated they’re treating all of their dogs for a respiratory sickness, to allow them to’t take any extra animals proper now.

There are a few hundred dogs underneath the climate, and workers stated they’re working more durable than ever to attempt to management the unfold.

“They’ll be coughing, sneezing, they just don’t feel themselves,” Director of Operations at RCACP Melinda Rector stated.

She stated the dogs had been hit by an higher respiratory an infection that required vet therapy. Rector stated the sickness doesn’t unfold from dogs to people.

However, shelter workers warn native canine homeowners to remain conscious.

“You absolutely need to be making sure that you’re taking care of your animal at home,” Rector stated. “When you’re going on walks, don’t go up to dogs that you don’t know.”

Rector stated two contaminated dogs introduced the sickness into the shelter. Now, they’ve paused consumption.

“If you find a dog that’s loose, try to hold onto it and try to find the owner,” Rector stated. “You’re welcome to call us and let us know that you found it. You can bring it by here, and we can check for a microchip. We don’t want to put any new animals into this situation because they will get sick.”

They’ll solely take dogs in emergency conditions in the event that they’ve bitten or been aggressive. They encourage anybody occupied with fostering a canine proper now to name them.

Shelter workers stated the sickness often lasts about two weeks, and hopefully, they’ll be again to regular operations quickly.
