SOUTHINGTON — A retired police K-9 who served the town for seven years has died, according to the Southington Police Department.

Lou, who retired in 2021, served alongside retired Sgt. Stephen Salerno, the department said in a Facebook post on Saturday.

“Our thoughts are with Sergeant Salerno and his family,” police officials wrote in the post.

According to the department, Lou was responsible for helping officers apprehend suspects, detecting narcotics and searching buildings, among other tasks.
