Three years of age Cleo, a Husky/Besenji mix, was shot and killed after slipping into a next-door neighbors lawn. It took place back in April on Cavern Drive in Double Diamond.

Cleo’s owners, siblings David and A.J. Blaylock, state they’re ravaged by the loss of their precious family pet.

“We provided her all the love we might and uh, we lost a relative,” David informed us. “That’s why this is so essential to us.”

Reno Police examined and figured out the shooting of Cleo and another dog were warranted as the house owner informed officers the animals were acting strongly as soon as they entered his yard under this fence.

But the Blaylocks state more concerns require to be addressed particularly after discovering the shooter informed dispatchers throughout the 9-1-1 call that he “does not like dogs” and didn’t desire them in his lawn.

They feel that declaration and other truths of the case have actually been neglected.

“We do not think it was examined properly,” the Blaylocks said.

And 2 city leaders, Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve and Councilwoman Naomi Duerr, inform News 4 they desire more responses from authorities about what took place too.

The mayor questions why neighbors were not interviewed as part of the investigation.

Duerr has asked whether it was legal for the homeowner to fire a gun within city limits.

The Blaylocks say they appreciate the support from those at City Hall.

“I think it’s absolutely amazing for them to take our scenario seriously,” David said. “I really do believe they’re going to help us get justice.”

But what has happened since the 2 city leaders called for a more thorough investigation is unclear.

Reno Police inform us nothing has changed. And they’ve declined to speak on camera about the case.

The Blaylocks have their own questions including why the homeowner didn’t simply wait inside for help to arrive after calling animal control.

A.J. says he feels this tragedy could have easily been avoided that way.

“In my opinion he took this into his own hands and put himself in this situation. That’s not self-defense in my opinion.”

That question and others are now being asked at the highest level of City Hall.

News 4 did reach out to the homeowner who shot the dogs, he did not return our phone call for this story.

As for what’s next, the Mayor and Councilwoman Duerr are expected to meet with the Reno Police Chief in the coming days to discuss the investigation and whether authorities need to ask more concerns prior to closing this case for good.
