Food, video games, raffles, demonstrations and a canine present will happen from 1 to five p.m. Sept. 16 to boost money for photo voltaic lights and a shelter for shade on the year-old park, which is situated at Memorial Park off Route 25.
The lack of shade on the park this summer time has been difficult for dogs and their house owners, spurring lots of them to go to the park within the evenings, stated Sandra Boutin, who was integral within the effort to convey a canine park to Standish. That creates its personal challenges, nonetheless, as a result of though the park is open till 10 p.m., it’s not lighted.
Money raised at Pups within the Park will go towards making a safer park for dogs and house owners.
“It’s a free, community event for anyone and everyone. We welcome all well-behaved dogs on a leash,” Boutin stated.
The afternoon can even embody a Ok-9 demonstration, a photograph sales space, free manicure and particular appearances by Sparky the Fire Dog and Bill Dodge’s Otto the Moose. A “fun” canine present with awards given in classes like “fluffiest” and “longest tail” will open to all with a $10 entry price, and a sport of “musical sit” for dogs can also be deliberate.
“We’re hoping to make it an annual thing and do a fundraiser once a year,” Boutin stated. “This event brings the community together, and it’s a lot of fun.”
She doesn’t have a fundraising purpose for the occasion, however she hopes that by subsequent summer time the photo voltaic lights will be put in and the shade shelter constructed.
The 1-acre park with a double-gated entry initially opened with a $25,000 “Bark for your Park” grant from the state and has since been maintained by neighborhood volunteers, she stated.
April Allen obtained concerned with the canine park when the thought was first introduced in a petition 5 years in the past.
“It’s important for the community because it provides a safe space for the dogs to socialize and people to socialize,” Allen stated. “I have a deaf beagle who likes to sniff and wander, and she’s able to be off leash” on the park with out Allen worrying that she’ll get misplaced.
In addition, many older residents who can’t walk their dogs as a lot as they’d like convey their dogs to the park to get their train. Benches and picnic tables can be found for house owners whereas their dogs play.
She’s hopeful Pups within the Park will convey larger consciousness to the park.
“Hopefully it will spark interest, so when we have events, people will want to get involved,” Allen stated.
Community members can donate to the park at any time or register with its Clynk account and donate that manner. More info will be discovered on the Standish Parks and Recreation website and the Standish Community Dog Park’s Facebook group.
