A puppy was rescued from a bramble coated ditch 5 days after she vanished – because of a heat-seeking drone.

Six-month-old cocker spaniel Bow acquired misplaced throughout a walk along with her proprietor Jodie Dance. Jodie hunted for her beloved pooch for hours on February 19 however was pressured to desert the search when it acquired darkish.

The subsequent day she put an enchantment on Facebook for folks to look out for Bow close to the place she went lacking in Burton Dassett Country Park, Warwickshire. Five days later a jogger overheard barking coming from a bramble-filled railway embankment a few mile away from the park and raised the alarm.

Drone operator John Watton, 50, was known as in and used thermal imaging cameras to identify Bow trapped contained in the thicket. John, from Drone SAR (search and rescue) For Lost Dogs UK, stated: “The thermal drone is really good for areas that are really hard to search in. A jogger heard barking but couldn’t see the dog so we were called in and I took the drone over to his location.

“Within a few minutes I picked up a heat signature. It was literally about 6ft in brambles so all I got was a heat signature of a sort of spaniel, fox-type size. Once I picked that up the team went into this area, secured any exits and then they went in and grabbed Bow.”

Footage from Sunday’s rescue reveals Jodie and her buddies hacking down the thick brambles with hedge trimmers earlier than hauling Bow to security. John added: “It’s probably about a mile from where she went missing from. Just the reaction from the owner was unbelievable. She was completely in tears. To be honest I was nearly blubbering.”

Relieved proprietor Jodie, 37, from Banbury, Oxfordshire, had taken Bow and her sister Bella for a walk within the countryside once they each ran away.

She stated: “They are solely pups however they love working so I took them to Burton Dassett and allow them to off the lead. They had been having a superb time on the hills however then each disappeared from view after which solely Bella got here again. I had no concept the place Bow was however needed to cease trying when it went darkish so I contacted Drone SAR who had been simply good.

“Despite Bow being out within the chilly for 5 days she’s made a full restoration. It’s a miracle she was discovered and it would not have occurred with out the thermal drone.”
