Police shot and killed a canine after it attacked an officer in Desert Hot Springs on Tuesday, the division confirmed to News Channel 3.
A viewer advised News Channel 3 that the incident occurred within the space of West and sixteenth Street.
According to DHSPD spokesperson Doria Wilms, officers responded to a desert lot to help Animal Control with the elimination of a vicious canine.
“During the elimination, a separate canine escaped from a makeshift enclosure and attacked an Officer,” Wilms wrote in an e mail to News Channel 3.
The canine was shot and killed. Wilms confirmed that the officer was okay.
The incident is beneath investigation.
