Onlookers had been so alarmed about the best way a person was treating the canine he was walking that they contacted the police.
It resulted in Iain Campbell (41) showing at Wick Sheriff Court this week and being fined £350.
Sheriff Neil Wilson heard that the incident occurred on August 5, final 12 months, at Riverside, Wick, well-liked with walkers.
Some of them witnessed Campbell shouting on the puppy named Skye, placing it with a canine toy or related merchandise and pinning it to the bottom.
Campbell, of Henrietta Street, Wick, admitted having acted in a threatening or abusive method.
Fiscal Depute Grant McLennan mentioned that different walkers had been “sufficiently involved” by Campbell’s behaviour that they contacted the police.
Officers had been involved for the canine’s welfare and had visited Campbell’s home. He co-operated absolutely with them.
Solicitor Fiona MacDonald mentioned that the accused, a kitchen employee, was “embarrassed” at discovering himself in court docket.
He had been walking the puppy for a buddy and had returned it to him afterwards.
Sheriff Wilson mentioned he would deal with the incident as “a one-off”.
