This is the sight which greeted Dundalk Dog Rescue volunteers after they arrived at their rescue centre at Dromiskin, Co Louth, on Sunday morning.
A tragic Cockapoo ready for his proprietor to return after he was left tied to the gate of centre, near the busy M1 motorway.
Thankfully, he his now protected within the care of devoted volunteers and can have a brand new home by the tip of the week however needed to endure the trauma of being deserted by his proprietor and left standing within the chilly.
“This is terrible. It’s absolutely disgusting that someone could do this in this day and age,” says DDR director Bobby Wain.
“Our volunteers have been met by the this canine simply standing there after they arrived early on Sunday morning. There was no be aware, no meals, no water, only a solitary lead tied to the gate and a humid pink blanket.”
“He’s a lovely young dog and the good news is that he will get a home by the end of the week but there is no excuse for people to do this. Instead of leaving him tied up by the gate overnight they could have taken him to us the following morning or they could have left him with the Council dog pound.”
DDR volunteers watched CCTV footage which confirmed the canine being deserted on the predominant gate to the rescue centre through the midnight.
On discovering him, they instantly scanned to see if he was microchipped however he wasn’t so there was no option to hint his proprietor.
Bad possession, in addition to the proliferation of so-called puppy farms, are the explanation why rescue centres like Dundalk Dog Rescue are overflowing with dogs looking for new houses.
“People have to assume earlier than the get a canine because it’s an enormous dedication,” says Bobby. “And if they do find that they can’t care for it, they should reach out to rescues such as ourselves or LSPCA or the Dog Pound for help.”
However, he says some individuals are “too cowardly” to indicate their face and admit that they’ll’t take care of their pet.
“If individuals are having issues they need to admit it, put their fingers up and we are going to assist. There’s completely no excuse for doing what the proprietor of this canine did. It’s heart-breaking for the canine and really upsetting for the volunteers who got here in and located him.”
“This sort of behaviour is inexplicable and unjustifiable.”
