COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. – A Phoenix girl is accused of animal cruelty after authorities say she dumped her aged, vision-impaired canine on the facet of the highway in Benson.
The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office says the canine was discovered walking down the exit ramp close to Interstate 10 and Skyline Road at 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 26.
An animal management officer took custody of the canine and decided it was microchipped, and its proprietor lived in Maricopa County.
“Numerous calls and messages by CCSO Animal Control have been left for the proprietor with no response,” the sheriff’s workplace wrote on Facebook.

On Sept. 6, the canine’s proprietor, 62-year-old Karen Black, was discovered at her home in central Phoenix. Authorities say Black initially stated she was by no means in Cochise County however later admitted to leaving the canine on the facet of the highway.
Black is accused of cruelty to animals and is due again in a Cochise County courtroom later this month.
CCSO says the canine is being held at a shelter till Black’s case is resolved.
