PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Pawtucket female implicated of disregard after her dead dog was given the Ocean State Veterinary Specialists in March has actually been arraigned, according to authorities.
Dawn Abbenante was arraigned on one count of unneeded cruelty to animals — death resulting — and one count of failure to supply a dog with appropriate veterinary care.
Attorney General Peter Neronha said Wednesday that on March 14, the Ocean State Veterinary Specialists called the Rhode Island SPCA about a dead poodle called “Diamond” that was generated for cremation.
Workers at the Ocean State Veterinary Specialists said Diamond remained in an “extreme state of neglect” prior to her death. She experienced big stomach growths, loss of hair and matting, thick nails, and was covered in feces.
Neronha said the individual who brought the poodle in for cremation was gotten in touch with. She informed cops the dog came from her sweetheart’s mom, Abbenante.
The 57-year-old, said Neronha, reported that Diamond hadn’t received veterinary care in over 2 years. She was jailed 8 days later on.
Abbenante is due is Providence Superior Court in July.
