Passenger’s canine discovered weeks after it escaped, ran off on Atlanta airport tarmac

A dog who weeks ago escaped at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport was recovered on Saturday, the airport stated in a social media submit. 

Maia was found by an operations workforce hiding close to the airport’s North Cargo services, the airport stated. She’s since been taken to a veterinarian for therapy. 

Maia’s proprietor had been on a Delta flight when the canine vanished throughout a layover in Atlanta. The passenger, Paula Rodriguez, posted in a Facebook group referred to as “Atlanta Area Lost and Found Pets” with a plea for assist after she stated she misplaced her canine on Aug. 18.

Following Maia’s disappearance, Robin Allgood, who works to search out misplaced dogs, put up flyers across the airport, she advised CBS News’ David Begnaud. Allgood stated she went to the airport Saturday after she obtained a name from somebody who stated they noticed Maia. 

She stated the pup was underneath a rack used to maneuver large cargo containers across the airport. According to Allgood, after a wildlife biologist did not get Maia with a internet, individuals had been standing round speaking about how they might get the canine out from underneath the rack.

Delta beforehand advised CBS News that the specifics of how and why the canine went lacking had been nonetheless being investigated. Rodriguez, who stated she was flying to San Francisco from the Dominican Republic with a layover in Atlanta, claimed her vacationer visa wasn’t authorized by border officers and he or she needed to spend the night time at a detention middle as she awaited the subsequent flight again home.

Maia was not allowed to stick with her on the detention middle, Rodriguez stated. A Delta consultant later confirmed U.S. Customs and Border Patrol doesn’t permit cabin pets — those that traveled on the aircraft in a service underneath the seat — at their detention facility. 

A Delta agent took the pet and, Rodriguez stated, and workers advised her the canine could be ready for her the subsequent day on the gate.

When the canine wasn’t there, Rodriguez stated the gate workers tried to find Maia, however couldn’t.
