The relocation by Burnley Council’s executive follows Hapton-with-Park ward’s Cllr Alan Hosker revealing issue about out of control animals on the Padiham Greenway.
The leader of the authority’s Conservative group attended its conference on Wednesday night to raise the problem.
He informed senior councillors: “In our parks individuals are expected to keep dogs on leads.
“I am worried about dog fouling on Padiham Greenway where no-one appears to do that.
“It is a mess.
“Also I am stressed over out of control dogs.
“You see individuals out walking 4 dogs.
“No-one can manage 4 dogs.
“I was on the greenway just recently and I saw an old female with a Yorkshire Terrier faced by a big and enormous dog. She was lucky not to get bitten.
“I am likewise troubled about dog owners on Hapton Park not keeping their family pets on a lead. I have actually been approached a number of times by barking dogs.
“Can the council do something about this?”
In December 2021 a dog and its owner were entrusted considerable injuries after being assaulted by 2 other dogs on Padiham Greenway.
Burnley Council parks employer Cllr Maggie Lishman said the council would seek advice from on whether to extend the Public Space Protection Order needing owners to keep their dogs on leads in the district’s parks to the Greenway.
She said if the assessment remained in favour of the relocation the PSPO would be changed to cover the Padiham Greenway from the town’s Memorial Park to Dryden Street.
Cllr Lishman assured that the signs in Hapton Park was to be reconditioned and updated to explain all dogs need to be kept a lead.
She said: “The indications at the minute are not as clear as they must be. This is already in hand.”
Cllr Lishman included that owners who stopped working to clean up after their dogs were already dedicating an offense.
Cllr Hosker said after the conference: “I enjoy with that. This has to do with individuals not politics.”
