Oklahoma Shelter Mistakenly Euthanized Unsuitable Dog

An Oklahoma canine proprietor is grieving the lack of her canine who was by accident euthanized by the Oklahoma City Animal Welfare. The canine was to bear a neuter process on the shelter, nonetheless, the tragic mix-up led to his premature demise.

According to News 9the deceased canine — named Spotty — was among the many dozens of dogs picked up by the Oklahoma City Animal Welfare earlier this month.

As per KOCO 5 NewsSpotty had escaped from home, leaving his proprietor — Melissa Evans — hopeless about ever reuniting with him. Thankfully, the OKC Animal Welfare discovered him and contacted Evans to tell her of the identical.

However, the shelter advised Evans that they first must neuter Spotty earlier than releasing him, to which Evans agreed. When she went to select up her beloved canine days later, the shelter broke the devastating information to her: They had mistakenly euthanized Spotty as an alternative of neutering him.

“It broke my heart,” a distraught Evans shared. “I was like no, you have to, you [must have] made another mistake,” she added.

According to the OKC Animal Welfare Superintendent, Jon Gary, Spotty resembled the canine set for euthanization. Unfortunately, each dogs have been staying in the identical kennel.

“There were two dogs in this particular kennel…Very similar-looking dogs. Same coloring, same [gender]same breed type,” Gary acknowledged.

Continuing, Gary defined: “We went into the kennel and mistakenly pulled the wrong dog out. And the wrong dog was euthanized.” Furthermore, Gary shared that the shelter workers are deeply regretful for making the deadly mistake.

To stop the same incidence sooner or later, Gary shared the shelter will take harder measures. “If two dogs look really similar like these two did, we need to do a good job of getting identification bands on them, some way to differentiate them from each other,” he mentioned.
