OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — After years of not having an open house for canine lovers to take their furry buddies, the City of Oceanside is working to carry an off-leash web site to the world.
City leaders mentioned an underdeveloped house on the Ron Ortega Recreation Park will home the house for dogs.
Friday, Dec. 15, is the final day for community members to fill out a survey to let the town know what they want to see on the off-leash web site.
Neighbor Richard Beard mentioned he takes his 1-year-old canine, Tucker, by the dust and gravel lot just a few occasions a day.
“I know a lot of other people who have dogs around here and they’re excited about it,” mentioned Beard.
The metropolis mentioned it’s making this web site accessible for pet households after it was pressured to shut its solely off-leash web site again in 2018.
Oceanside Parks and Recreation Director Manuel Gonzalez mentioned the explanation the town determined to build a canine park has lots to do with the steel poles that may be seen posted within the floor on the location.
“One of the challenges is that we are building on a decommissioned landfill,” mentioned Gonzalez. “There are monitoring wells that we have to work around. We are working with regulatory agencies to determine what we can and can’t design.”
The metropolis has proposed designs that embody fenced in pens for giant and small dogs, seating for canine dad and mom, and shade buildings.
Gonzalez mentioned the prevailing park will stay untouched, just like the Little League baseball fields.
“I think there were initially some concerns about the design and the little league operations and their existing fields. I think we were able to assure them, that in fact, what we were doing was creating a more complete park,” mentioned Gonzalez.
The metropolis mentioned they don’t have any prices related to the plans but. Once they obtain all the suggestions from the surveys, then they are going to transfer ahead with a timeline and prices.
