Shropshire Council may quickly be granted powers to subject fines for canine fouling, if plans to introduce a countywide ‘public spaces protection order’ (PSPO) are agreed.
At their assembly on Wednesday 18 October, the council’s Cabinet can be requested to approve a session into the introduction of a PSPO for the geographic space of Shropshire. The PSPO would allow the council to subject mounted penalty notices of as much as £100 to those that enable their dogs to foul pavements and public areas.
Under the PSPO, dogs would even be excluded from play and sports activities areas and could be required to put on a lead on the general public freeway. PSPOs create a framework that both replaces or updates present public area restrictions reminiscent of alcohol Designated Public Place Orders and Dog Control Orders and permits native authorities to introduce new rules.
