Controversial dating trend sees men broken up into four different animals based on how they look: Dogs, bears, eagles and reptiles

  • Dating expert shared her thoughts on latest dating trend
  • The looks of men and women are said to be linked to different animals

All men are either ‘eagle handsome, bear handsome, dog handsome, or reptilian handsome’, according to a new dating trend.

The terms, which ‘describe the looks and characteristics of different types of men’ is the talking point of thousands  after a debate sparked on Twitter.

Leading Australian relationship expert Dr Lurve shared her thoughts on the topic, telling FEMAIL the traits can act as a ‘guide’ to help better understand the type of people you’re attracted to.

‘The character traits are really interesting because they are fairly close to their animals!’ she said.

For instance, Dr Lurve said a man who is ‘reptilian handsome’ has a straight nose, sharp eyes that ‘look like they can see into your soul’, while ‘dog handsome’ has the traits of a big, round eyes and a cheeky grin.

‘Eagle handsome’ is someone with a strong jawline and long nose with smaller eyes, and a man who’s ‘bear handsome’ has a rounder face and soft features with broad shoulders.

Actor Ryan Gosling is said to be 'eagle handsome' for his strong features, long nose, small eyes, and lighter hair and eyes

The late Heath Ledger is said to be 'dog handsome' for his cheeky grin, light hair, and sharp features

Men are either ‘eagle handsome, bear handsome, dog handsome, or reptilian handsome’, according to new trend

Dr Lurve continued by saying if you’re attracted to bear handsome men, you might be attracted to his ‘soft appearance which may have you focusing on his attributes like open-mindedness or livability’.

‘I don’t think the types of personalities are necessarily linked to behaviour, but it could mean that your ‘type’ of handsome is linked to what you find attractive in someone’s personality too,’ she explained.

‘The same would go for needing to ‘watch your man’ – it might be you’re chasing the same guy, who has the same look and same personality traits!’

Hosts of the popular podcast Two Broke Chicks, Sally McMullen and Alex Hourigan, discussed the topic on a recent episode with guest Alyssa Harper.

Alex shared examples of celebrities that each possess the animalistic traits, claiming Ryan Gosling is eagle handsome, Henry Cavill is bear handsome, the late Heath Ledger was dog handsome and Timothee Chalamet is reptilian handsome.

All three woman agreed on the theory and laughed together.

What are the four different types of looks in men?

Eagle handsome – strong features, long nose, small eyes, lighter hair and eyes

Dog handsome – rounder face, dark hair and eyes

Bear handsome – rounder face, broad shoulders, light hair and eyes

Reptilian handsome – strong features, dark hair and eyes, straight nose

What are the four different types of looks in women?

Fox pretty – lighter hair, dark or light eyes, longer face, sharp features

Cat pretty – darker hair, light eyes, rounder face, sharp features

Deer pretty – darker hair, dark eyes, longer face, soft features

Bunny pretty – lighter hair, dark or light eyes, round face soft facial features

‘I knew reptilian was going to be my type as soon as your said it,’ Alyssa said in the episode.

‘I feel like I could sway any which way,’ Sally added before linking her boyfriend to either ‘dog handsome’.

Alex added she’s currently dating someone who’s between ‘bear handsome’ and ‘dog handsome’.

However, regardless of what people look like, Dr Lurve everyone ‘shouldn’t disregard someone’ who is genuinely nice and has a good personality based on how they look.

‘Looks fade but personality is forever; if you’re serious about getting into a relationship, you need to find someone who will make you laugh and be your shoulder to cry on, not just a hot piece of arm candy that you constantly feel insecure about!’ she said.

How to spot a liar every time:

Dating coach Debbie Rivers told FEMAIL how to spot a liar once and for all.

‘A good liar can be hard to spot! They can be so good at it, that they even believe their own lies! Don’t just listen to what they say, pay close attention to their actions,’ she said.

‘Action ALWAYS speak louder than words make sure you listen. I see why too many women look at a man’s potential rather than the reality that is right in front of them.’

She said to ‘take things slowly’ as liars can only hide their true colours for so long.

Also be aware if they’re narcissists, players, or love bombers.

‘Notice how you feel when you are not around them! It can be easy to feel good when he is charming when you are together but what does he do in between? Do you feel safe or does he make you feel anxious?’ she said.

‘In a good relationship, you won’t feel anxious or doubt that he is into to you.’
