After months of listening to a canine whining and yelping in misery from what they believed was bodily abuse, neighbors banded collectively to name police on behalf of a vulnerable 10-month-old Rottweiler. Its proprietor was in jail Friday dealing with a felony cost of animal abuse.

Gainesville police arrested Nicole Dazah Richards, 25, of Gainesville on Thursday night after complaints from neighbors in her residence complicated, who offered movies and witness accounts. She had adopted the canine earlier this yr, police mentioned.

Police took the canine into custody and mentioned it seems to be in good well being. A decide banned Richards from being round animals or possessing any firearms till her trial. 

Police started investigating final month after neighbor Trever Lawrence Stermer, 20, of Lake Worth, reported that he noticed Richards tapped her pet with a brush deal with, pushing it up the steps.  Stermer’s roommate, Mike Kulikowski, 28, of Gainesville, mentioned when he confronted Richards in regards to the canine, she threatened to shoot him.

“This lady is crazy,” Kulikowski mentioned in an interview. “We want her out and evicted. What she is doing is evil, ungodly and unright.” 

Stermer, who described the canine because the “happiest dog ever,” mentioned he heard the yelps and screams of the pup from outdoors his porch on the primary ground of the building. He mentioned it got here from Richards’ residence. 

Stermer mentioned he confronted Richards, who screamed at him and threatened him with a belt. “You wanna find out?” she mentioned, in keeping with Stermer. He known as the police to report the threats, he mentioned. When police left, he mentioned he recorded Richards hurting the canine once more.

In the video, which Stermer shared with WUFT News, Richards seems to pull the animal up the steps by the neck and beat the canine with a belt whereas shouting profanity on the canine.

Another neighbor, Daimian Jamel Wilson, 18, of Jacksonville, mentioned he and fellow neighbors focus on the canine’s pained yelping frequently. 

“We have a group chat,” Wilson mentioned, “We talk about how you can hear the dog whining for hours.” 

Saul Godinez-Rodriguez moved in three months in the past and lives beneath Richards. He can also be part of this group group-chat that mentioned Richards. He instructed authorities he hears the canine “yelping on a daily basis.” 

“Everyone kept insisting we call the police or animal control to solve the situation,” Godinez-Rodriguez mentioned. 

Another neighbor, who needs to stay nameless, instructed police that she began listening to the canine being abused in March when it was nonetheless a young puppy. She had seen Richards hit the canine with a belt, a shoe and her arms.

“It sounded like when you step on a dog by accident, but it was over and over again,” she instructed police. 

Richards was in jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
