MOORHEAD, Minn. (Valley News Live) – For most of DeAnn Syverson’s life, she’s been dedicated to discovering and rescuing misplaced dogs within the Fargo-Moorhead group. A process which has lately topped her because the winner of the April 2024 MoorHeart Award.
She’s aside of The Retrieversa gaggle that runs solely on volunteers, who assist canine homeowners discover their lacking companions.
“I’ve always been passionate about animals, dogs especially. Since The Retrievers started, we’ve helped over 5,500 cases,” Syverson explains.
They’re a Minneapolis-based organization, that means DeAnn is the one ‘Retriever’ within the space. If she hears a tip of a misplaced canine, she generally travels over two and a half hours away.
Specializing in skittish and nervous dogs, she believes all misplaced dogs could be captured in a protected and safe manner.
DeAnn says, “The key for us to do that successfully is our good samaritans. So many communities are willing to step up, which is a huge benefit for us.”
Stepping up in an enormous manner, Syverson devotes as a lot time as she will be able to to make sure these dogs get to security.
In addition to the numerous volunteer hours, she spends her time educating different residents easy methods to greatest deal with any state of affairs concerning a misplaced canine.
Her recommendation is, “If you don’t know who the owner is, and they’re running, we ask you just call the non-emergency police line, and report sightings.”
A well-deserved title of the April MoorHeart Award winner.
“I’m very honored, but it’s truly a team effort. I can’t do what I do, without both The Retrievers team, and the community,” she says as she displays on her recognition.
