In the winter of 2018, Donna Lochmann and her rescue crew witnessed a complicated and heartbreaking sight. As chief life saving officer with Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL), Lochmann was combing town’s streets in the midst of a snowstorm for needy animals when her search got here to a sudden cease.
From her Jeep, Lochmann noticed a white van with a mysterious grey mound resting beneath it. The fluffy clump of fur moved barely, and Lochmann immediately knew he was an animal in want. But she couldn’t inform precisely who he was at first.

When he arrived, the vets rushed to give him a thorough checkup, but his hair was blocking them from doing so.
“We had to get the hair off of him,” Lochmann mentioned. “It’s a real process when it’s that knotted up, trying to get it off.”
The veterinary crew slowly combed by the canine’s fur with electrical clippers and punctiliously eliminated his mats. Before lengthy, his icicle and leaf-covered fur fell to the bottom, and the tiny grey pup, later named Pilgrim, was fully easy once more.
“He had to feel so much better getting all that hair off of him,” Lochmann mentioned. “It might’ve been about six pounds of hair.”
