The clip shared by Neha Panchamiya, founder of RESQ Charitable Trust, an animal rescue centre in Pune, shows a man sleeping on a cot. Trucks are seen parked on the other side, and a dog is seen sleeping on the ground. A leopard is seen emerging from under a truck.
The big cat moves stealthily and aims at the canine, which sleeps unaware of its predator’s presence. Swiftly, the leopard grabs hold of the dog with its mouth and the dog is seen wiggling. The man wakes up and gets shocked over the happenings. Seemingly confused and terrified, he looks around for a while and is seen scrolling through his phone.
“What leopards in agricultural landscapes of western Maharashtra thrive on and bring them SO close to humans = अन्न आणि निवारा i.e. safe shelter in dense sugarcane fields, banana plantations etc. and free-ranging dogs as a common source of food. This leopard knew exactly what he was after. While the man’s muted reaction cracked me up for a minute, I cannot imagine the shock he must’ve felt once he realised what a close encounter he just had! Source: CCTV footage – Junnar, viz. WhatsApp,” Panchamiya tweeted.
Several users were shocked by the man’s reaction. A user commented, “His fuses went blank after knowing what happened.” Another user wrote, “This seems to be a norm for this guy!” A third user commented, “Dog’s lack of reaction until it got grabbed, probably indicates that it has lost its ‘natural abilities’ to detect ‘threat’.”
