PORTAGE COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – A 49-year-old Rootstown Township man was arrested on Thanksgiving after he allegedly led Portage County Sheriff deputies on each a car and foot chase.
According to Portage County Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski, Jason Melton had a number of felony warrants for his arrest and a deputy noticed him driving on Sandy Lake Road in Rootstown Township.
Melton refused to tug over and continued driving at a excessive fee of velocity, at one time he reached 80 mph, stated Sheriff Zuchowski.
He then allegedly ditched the car on the nook of Sandy Lake Road and S. Prospect Street earlier than leaping out on foot and working into the woods along with his canine.
“We can’t forget to mention that when Mr. Melton fled on foot into the woods, he did so with his small dog in tow ♂️. The dog however did not want to be involved in his criminal activity. It broke from Mr. Melton’s grip on the leash and returned to their vehicle,” posted Portage County Sheriff Zuchowski on Facebook.
Deputies and K9 Hulk along with his handler arrange a fringe and searched the realm.
Melton surrendered shortly afterwards and was taken into custody.
According to Sheriff Zuchowski, Melton’s prior warrants are for breaking and getting into, receiving stolen property, theft, and narcotic and weapon offenses. He can also be charged with failure to conform and driving below suspension for the Thanksgiving chase.
