At round 3.20pm on Monday (November 20), witnesses reported seeing a person walking two puppies outdoors Home and Bargains in Grange Shopping Centre on Borough Road.
It was additionally reported that the puppies might be seen “limping” and making an attempt to “hide” from the proprietor.
One eyewitness account instructed the Globe: “A few of us witnessed him smacking, dragging and biting the top of puppy’s head by home and bargains in Birkenhead. One of them, who was sat next to him, was limping his back left leg and tried hiding under my friend’s pram.”
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police stated: “We can affirm we acquired a report {that a} man was inflicting hurt to a canine in Birkenhead yesterday, Monday 20 November.
“At round 3.20pm, it was reported that the person was inflicting pointless struggling to a German Shepherd he was walking in Grange Shopping Centre.
“Our enquiries are ongoing into this incident and if you have any information, please call 101 or DM ‘MerPolCC’ on Twitter of ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook, quoting reference 23001170065.”
An RSPCA spokesperson stated: “The police are main on this incident and we’d urge anybody with first-hand details about what occurred to contact them. We have provided our help if wanted.”
