Man injured and dog dies in crash on A353 near Weymouth

A MAN was taken to hospital with serious injuries and a dog died in a car crash near Weymouth.

The single-vehicle collision took place on the A353 Wareham Road between Warmwell Cross and Church Road, Preston, Weymouth at around 6:50 pm on Tuesday, January 17.

Police, fire and ambulance services were in attendance at the scene which closed the road in both directions.

As a result of this incident, Dorset Police confirmed that a man was taken to hospital with injuries believed to be serious and a dog that was in the car had died.

In a statement, they said: “We received a report at 6.49 pm on Tuesday 17 January 2023 of a single vehicle collision on the A353 near Osmington. Officers attended, along with the fire and ambulance service.

“One man was taken to hospital with injuries that were believed to be serious. It was also reported that a dog that was in the car had died.”

While the road was shut, motorists were asked to seek alternative routes and were thanked for their patience by the police.

The road re-opened at around 12:30 am in the early hours of Wednesday, January 18 and the local authorities were notified of the icy conditions on the route.

The crash came on a second day of travel mayhem in Dorset due to the weather, with several routes across the region closed due to ice while others suffered from flooding.
