A person who was caught on CCTV attacking his canine has been banned from maintaining animals for seven years.

Scott Birt, 21, from Newent, was biking in Gloucester when he was filmed inflicting “appalling and pointless” violence on his canine Hugo.

Following an investigation and prosecution by the RSPCA, Birt was additionally ordered to hold out 100 hours unpaid work.

Hugo will likely be rehomed after being signed over in courtroom.

Birt, of Poinsettia Way, Newent, Gloucestershire, pleaded responsible to 2 animal welfare offences at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court. He was sentenced on 11 October.

The RSPCA stated Birt was captured on CCTV whereas he was biking with one other man and his canine on 1 February.

Footage, which was proven in courtroom, confirmed Hugo trailing behind, earlier than Birt acquired off his bike.
