MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A Memphis man has been arrested and charged after police say he shot and killed his mom’s canine throughout a heated argument that was sparked after he set hearth to her yard.
Antonio Holmes‘ mom called for help late Saturday morning. She told police that the dispute began after Holmes set a fire in her backyard. She said that when she told him to put the fire out, he began yelling and cursing at her, then followed her inside the home where the argument continued.
During the fight, Holmes’ canine began barking, so he started hitting it with a fuel can, his mom informed police. When Holmes’ brother confronted him in regards to the abuse, he allegedly responded by pulling a handgun and pointing it at him.
It’s then that their mom mentioned her canine got here into the room.
As the brother tried to maneuver the canine away from the commotion, Holmes allegedly fired a single shot, hanging the canine within the chest, killing it.
Holmes’ mom and brother informed police that they had been in shut proximity when the canine was shot. Holmes fled earlier than officers arrived, however was caught after a brief foot chase, police say.
Holmes’ mom informed police that the gun he used to shoot her canine belonged to his late father. She mentioned her husband purchased it earlier than he handed away, and that her son took it from her closet with out her permission.
Memphis police say that Holmes can also be a convicted felon who pleaded responsible to aggravated housebreaking in 2022.
He is now charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, animal cruelty, evading arrest, and two counts of reckless endangerment.
He is being held on a $100,000 bond and is ready to seem in courtroom Tuesday morning.
