Maine authorities are seeking to catch a black bear who bit a female after she punched it in the nose when safeguarding her dog.

At around 11:30 Friday early morning 64-year-old Lynn Kelly of Porter, Maine, was out operating in her garden when her dog began barking and removed into the woods.

Kelly heard her dog continue to bark and after that yelp, and when she went to examine, her dog came lacking the woods, being gone after by a black bear, according to Maine Wildlife authorities.

Kelly challenged the bear head-on, stood as high as she could, then punched the bear in the nose, when the bear bit her in the right-hand man, piercing her wrist. The bear right away launched her wrist, then ran back into the woods, leaving Kelly and her unhurt dog behind.

Emergency teams reacted and carried Kelly to the medical facility to be dealt with for leak injuries.

The bear has actually not been seen considering that the provoked attack, wildlife authorities said. The Department has actually set 2 live-capture culvert-style traps to attempt and catch the bear alive.

The bear had actually been seen in previous days in close-by backyards consuming birdseed that had actually been left outside.

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife advises individuals that black bears can be discovered throughout the state, and to:

• Remove possible wildlife attractants from your backyard

• If bears have actually been seen in your location, do not wait to eliminate possible food sources from your backyard

• Attractants can consist of bird feeders, bird seed on the ground, unsecured trash, animal food, and even gas grill.

• If you do see a bear, keep your range, and do not corner or upset the bear

If you are a dog owner and have actually seen a bear in your community:

• Walk your dog on a non-retractable leash

• If you see a bear, reverse and leave

• Do not get in between your dog and a bear

• Turn any outdoors lights on prior to letting your dog outside during the night

This is an establishing story. Check back for updates as more info appears.
