An indication warning canine walkers to choose up their pets’ mess has been deemed ‘fouled up’ by a neighborhood councillor, following months of campaigning.

Councillor Joan McTigue has accused Middlesbrough Council of botching the “no fouling” sign up Beechwood. She criticised the signal for being too small, positioned too excessive from the bottom, and positioned within the incorrect place.

She expressed her frustration, saying: “It’s the daftest factor I’ve seen in 20 years. Fine for anyone who’s 10ft tall. I do not know any residents who’re 10ft tall. You want binoculars to learn it.”

The councillor blasted the council’s efforts, saying: “That’s at the very least 10ft from the bottom, not possible to learn, pointless and the same old waste of our money. It’s taken me months to get an indication right here and that is the most effective they’ll supply. In future, I’ll do the job myself.”

Cllr McTigue additionally highlighted the severity of the canine fouling difficulty on the road, revealing: “It’s been an issue for about six to eight months. It was worst I’ve seen.” She added: “There have been six or seven piles of it on one aspect of the highway. I’ve counted it myself. I requested for all of it to be cleaned up and it wasn’t accomplished.”

Despite her request for the signal to be positioned on the left-hand aspect, the place many of the canine fouling happens, the council ultimately put in a small “no fouling” signal on the alternative aspect of the highway, at an elevated peak, with a warning that “offenders shall be prosecuted”.

In a basic case of ‘lookup’, Cllr McTigue stated she initially struggled to find the signal, stating: “They stored saying, ‘it is there’. I could not see it, I went up and down, however you do not lookup within the sky for a highway signal.”
