DRIGGS — A 5-year-old Driggs boy is home Saturday after enduring a dog mauling in his yard on Thursday night.
John and Jessie’s Vrabrec’s child Sawyer was airlifted to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center Thursday night with extreme injuries to his face and eye. His mom informed EastIdahoNews.com on Saturday that after 3 medical professionals worked to save Sawyer’s eye and sew his injuries, the family was headed home that afternoon.
“It will be a long road of recovery,” said Jessie. “He has a lot of stitches, but no internal injuries. He’s wearing an eye patch so he’s a really cool pirate right now.”
The event took place at night around 7 p.m. according to Teton County Sheriff’s representative Mitch Golden. He said the event is still under examination and the dog remained in ownership of its owner. He did not have more details to provide.
Jessie and John did not wish to comment even more on the information of the attack. Jessie said Sawyer was using his snowsuit and winter season coat on the night of the attack and she credits that with conserving the little boy’s life.
