If you capture Newton Police’s brand-new civil service statements encouraging the general public about Marathon Monday guidelines and roadway closures, you’ll discover one intense star in the videos: Leo the Comfort Dog.
Leo remains in all 4 of the PSAs, which police recorded “to take a fun approach to get their message out about safety while engaging with the public.” The popular dog signs up with Lt. Amanda Henrickson and Officer Dave Calderon in the videos.
In one PSA encouraging the general public versus public drinking, Leo rests on the pathway with a lady who is consuming from what seems a beer can in her hand.
“Miss? Hi! I need you to please put the beer away. Alcohol is not permitted on Marathon Monday,” Officer Calderon says while approaching the lady and Leo in the video. “Marathon Monday is a day for everyone to enjoy, because here in Newton the Boston Marathon is for families.”
In another PSA about prepared roadway closures, Leo is being in the driver’s seat of a vehicle, and Officer Calderon says to him: “Marathon Monday is one of our busiest days of the year. You’re going to run into a lot of road closures and a lot of parking issues. So for more information please visit our website or visit us on social media.”
