ELKHART, Ind. (WNDU) – The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is examining after a man and a dog were discovered dead in a house fire Tuesday early morning in Elkhart.
First responders were called around 7:40 a.m. to the 100 block of Myrtle Street on reports of a structure fire. Firefighters snuffed out the flames and policemans helped in clearing the home, which is a two-story house divided into front and back apartment or condos.
While clearing your home, very first responders discovered a dead man on the very first flooring of the front apartment or condo, along with a dead dog.
A 2nd man supposedly left your home through a 2nd story window and was not hurt.
The Fire Marshal is examining the reason for the blaze, while the Elkhart County Homicide Unit is dealing with the part of the examination including the dead man discovered inside the home.
The reason for the man’s death is presently unidentified. His name is being kept till his family is informed.
