An incorrectly disposed of cigarette most likely began a fire at a Dallas apartment that killed a dog early Tuesday, according to Dallas Fire Rescue.
The fire was reported quickly prior to 1 a.m. at the Treetop Condos in the 9200 block of Church Road. Firefighters showing up to the two-story apartment discovered “heavy fire” originating from the back, appearing to stem from the terrace, Dallas Fire Rescue representative Jason Evans said.
One female was inside the apartment. She had the ability to get 2 of her dogs out, however a 3rd dog ended up being caught by the fire, Evans said.
The fire was snuffed out within half an hour and the dog was discovered dead within, Evans said.
Investigators said the fire was identified to be unexpected, “most probably” triggered by an incorrectly disposed of cigarette. The female informed detectives she smoked on her terrace prior to going to sleep at night.
“Though she believed the cigarette was completely out when she was done, this evidently was not the case,” Evans said.
The fire harmed the terrace, in addition to the system to which it was connected. A surrounding apartment likewise received fire damage.
Three individuals were affected by the fire. None needed support from the American Red Cross, Evans said.
