MANSFIELD — Shakira, a 3-year-old feminine terrier-mix canine, was adopted on Saturday, Feb. 17 after spending 368 days on the Humane Society of Richland County.

“This adoption was a long time coming,” stated Linda Chambers, Managing Director. “While the animals in our care have a vast period of time that they’ll stick with us, we favor to see them in loving houses the place they belong.

“There were a lot of happy tears on Saturday.”

The Humane Society was alerted to a attainable canine abandonment case in February 2023 involving dogs that had been left behind after their homeowners moved.

Humane Agents eliminated Shakira, together with two different grownup dogs that have been left in an deserted home.

The two different dogs have been adopted pretty shortly. Shakira’s keep was a lot, for much longer.

Finally three days after Shakira’s 1-year anniversary within the shelter, she was adopted.

“So many stories that come from animal shelters involve sad situations,” Chambers stated. “It’s so refreshing when we have really happy news to share, especially for such a loving girl.”

Board President Candace Lybarger agreed.

“To see Shakira finally find her home gives such joy to all those who know and love her,” Lybarger stated. “There isn’t any higher feeling once we lastly join a person with their new finest pal.

“This was certainly the case.”
