A heroic dog recently proved his loyalty to his family when he defended a teen girl against an attacker.
A Four-Legged Friend…And Defender
Autumn Dolbear is 16 years old. She is a high school student with cognitive disabilities. Her dog, Pancake, has always been a source of comfort for her, but recently, he demonstrated he can be fierce when necessary.
The pair were on their usual evening walk in Central Park in Billings, Montana. A man came up and grabbed Autumn, but Pancake stepped in and prevented the teen from getting seriously physically hurt. Likely intimidated by the pup, the attacker fled. Autumn escaped with a few scrapes and bruises, but Pancake seems to have taken the brunt of the attack. When the pair arrived home, the pup was covered in blood.
Jessica Dolbear, Autumn’s mother, told KTVQ that the scene was like something “out of a nightmare.”
“She already struggles so much all the time that it’s just scary, and it’s not fair to her,” Jessica said of her daughter Autumn’s ordeal. “It was terrifying because you never know what would happen.”
Jessica immediately contacted the police and filed a report, but because of Autumn’s cognitive disabilities and being “rattled” by the encounter, Autumn struggled to provide a description of the suspect or a specific location where the attack occurred. Billings police officers are investigating, and they did interview one suspect, but determined that person was not involved in the incident. No arrests have been made in the case.
A Force to Be Reckoned With
For now, Pancake is being credited with essentially saving the teen’s life, and her mother is immensely grateful that the canine stayed by Autumn’s side and defended her against the attacker.
“I couldn’t imagine what had happened to her if she didn’t have our dog with her,” Jessica said.
Let this be a lesson, bad guys: don’t mess with Pancake.
